Dress: Breath of Youth
Welcome back to my cozy corner of the internet where we love all things that bring us that happy and warm feeling. Included are books of course lots and lots of books. Speaking of (see what I did there haha 😉 today I have a new book review for you all! I don’t share all my reviews on here but if you want to keep up to date with each I do review you can follow me on GoodReads and I share them on my instagram! But I thought this book “Paris is Always a Good Idea” by Jenn McKinaly deserved a spot here on my blog.
First and foremost I adored this book! 4.5 Spoonfuls out of 5 🥄✨ It gives you wanderlust, tugged at every heartstring you have, it was sexy, and heartbreaking all wrapped up into one. It has been awhile since a book made me laugh and cry but this book sure did. But the writing in this book will do that to you. It’s playful, charming, and so heartfelt. It lets you escape to the rolling hills of Ireland, then to the top of the Eiffel Tower all light up at midnight, and then walks you through the vineyards of Tuscany and that was a magic I needed after spending this last year in our homes.
I will make a small disclaimer and say this book has loss (from cancer) and grief interwoven throughout and if you are in a place where you cannot handle that kind of pain/discussion than maybe hold off on reading it. Having experienced loss myself it definitely brought back the feelings of grief and pain I experienced. For me, it was a touching and bittersweet reminder but I can see how it could be painful if the loss you have experienced is still too raw. That said I think the beauty of this book is that Chelsea thinks she needs to find herself again figuratively and literally in the arms of the men she loved before her mom died. That she needed to get back to that person instead of who she’s become. That that would then ease the hole that has been in her life for 7 years. But through many mishaps along the way she found she actually needed to let go of who she was before the loss so she can not only love and accept who she is now but also accept the love of someone who understood her all along.
If you are looking for a book to sweep you away and captivate your heart then look no further than “Paris is Always a Good Idea” you certainly won’t regret it.
