A Slow & Sustainable Gift Guide…

For those of us that want to be conscious consumers!

With black Friday sales happening earlier and earlier each year it can be hard to not get sucked into consuming. Especially with the hundreds of luring and promotional emails that come in even before 5 am promising 20-30% off everything for only the next X amount of hours. It puts unnecessary pressure and the feeling of needing to rush on purchasing a gift. It demands you not to think too hard about what you’re buying as you don’t want to miss the sale right??! Then add social media and influencers and it all can get a wee bit out of hand and overwhelming. I have been there, having gotten sucked into sales and feeling like I need to “keep up” with others/ society and purchase items I don’t need or didn’t end up even really wearing. If you’re like me and want things to be different this holiday season I am with you and here to put together some sustainable, non-toxic, and gentle items that will also give you longevity. It will be a mix of shopping small and (big) giving you the option to shop a sale if you wish. But of course, you don’t need to buy a single thing. The gift of love, togetherness, gratitude, and warmth are gifts enough and the things your friends and family will actually remember over a physical item. That’s what I keep close to my heart during this season as it can be very overwhelming to try and get gifts and not get swayed into the height of consumerism.

Onto the gifts, in each category, there are 5 hand-selected and curated items by me to help you find something for specific people in your life or even yourself. The categories are Coziness, For the Home, For the Fashionista (ethical fashion of course), and The Outdoorsy. I wasn’t planning on including any more categories but if there are specific ones you want me to do in a separate post let me know! Like clean and nontoxic kitchen items, clean makeup or skincare for the self-care girlies, etc.

For the hygee and cozy people in your life:

Candle (all clean and non-toxic waxes and fragrance), Mug (sustainably made in Vermont), Mittens (handmade by artisans in Peru), Scarf (responsibly sourced wool that allows animal welfare), Book (I am personally reading this now and it is a like a warm hug)

For the homemakers and people who love all things home:

Dried Florals (A great way to gift flowers in a sustainable way that lasts), Olive Oil (for the friend or family member that loves their time in the kitchen), A wood log rack (a stylish and practical gift for someone that utilizes their fireplace often, By candlelight (for the one who loves adding an antique feel to their home), Aesthetic spice jar labels (for the queen of organization)

For the (ethical) Fashion lovers in your life:

This cozy knit sweater is from the sustainable and ethical fashion brand ABLE. They are doing a major black Friday sale if you are interested. Have a friend or family member that loves hats? This Will & Bear hat is gorgeous and responsibly made in Australia! I am not sure about you but I love bags. I always have even as a child I would steal my moms and model it for her. If you have someone in your life like that look no further than Portland Leather. They offer affordable yet ethically and sustainably made leather pieces by using hides that would typically go to waste in the beef industry. This bag is currently 25% off and under $100. Christy dawn makes some of my absolute favorite ethical and sustainably made clothing but they are expensive. They are currently having a major sale where you can get up to 50-70% off. I love this dress! Last but certainly not least is Sandgren Clogs. I became clog obsessed this year (the brett style is whats pictured above) and I am never going back. They make so happy. They are ethically produced and have been making them for over 200 hundred years I believe. Their sale starts Monday the 21st.

For the Outdoorsy Person in your life:

If you have someone outdoorsy in your life you cannot go wrong with a pair of Blundstone Boots! They are perfect for hiking, all different weather conditions, and get better with age and wear. Maybe that person doesn’t like to really get deep into nature but is fascinated with different flowers and plants. A flower press is a wonderful gift and way for them to preserve their findings! Do you or a loved one enjoy gardening and growing your own food or flowers? This book is a complete guide showcasing step by step processes. To go with the garden theme, how lovely would a vintage copper watering can be? I think someone who loves spending time in their garden would think it is a thoughtful and unique gift. Last but certainly not least is this costumziable seed packet bundle. You can ask for a customized stamp for your seed packets at check out! All of these are responsibly made.

There you have it my sweet friends my slow and sustainable gift guide broken down into four categories! I hope this is helpful if you are looking to purchase some gifts. If you’d like to see anymore let me know 🙂 I will probably share my own personal slow gift wishlist a little closer to Christmas.

Sending you all love,

M
