Fall Trends I’m Loving…

& How to Shop them sustainably

Happy September sweet friends! We’ve officially entered the happiest months of the year. Fall is my soul as a season and I couldn’t be more excited to fully embrace it this year. One of the things I love most about Autumn is the fashion. Give me boots, fall florals, chunky knit sweaters, corduroy, flannel & more. I could go on and on but I have always deeply loved dressing for this season. It is still early so I wanted to just dip my toe in the Fall clothing realm just in case you’re not ready to dive in quite yet or it is still hot where you are.

As we delve deeper into the season we will discuss how I like to layer, mixing fall patterns, outfit ideas, and more so stay tuned for that! But I thought it would be fun to discuss the initial fall trends I love and how you can shop them second-hand and sustainably. Fall usually is by far my most expensive season because of all the activities, home decor, clothing, etc. But this year I really want to continue to focus on my slow and intentional living and that goes into buying as well. Being slow to buy or being okay with not needing everything new, reusing and re-wearing, and thrifting.

With that in mind, let’s talk trends! First up is all things Corduroy. I am such a sucker for corduroy anything. I love the immediate texture it gives to an outfit and to me it adds a coziness too. I always think of Oxford professors in corduroy and tweed teaching English literature on a cold fall day. Might sound silly but it’s how I romanticize my life. To me, corduroy really adds warmth and dimension to any look. I wear it no matter if it’s trendy but this year it happens to be! You can wear it in a multitude of ways like corduroy pants or blazer, a skirt, or even this year they are coming out with corduroy shorts!

Of course, you can buy all of these things new, but I have found all of these items on Depop or Poshmark. Using keywords like “corduroy blazer”, “brown corduroy pants”, “Paperbag corduroy shorts”, and ” black slouchy boots”. This is a more sustainable way to buy into these trends if you are wanting to.

I have this dress (affiliate link) and adore it! Currently on sale at Madewell for 30% off. Wearing an XXS

Next, let’s talk about the trend: Fall Florals! I talk about this trend each year but think it’s one of the best ways to dress for fall. Moody florals are my favorite in general and this year they are exploding. Dark burgundies and oranges, dark greens and purples, are all combined in gorgeous dresses. I love pairing a dress like this with boots. It is an immediate show-stopper look.

Bought these boots (affiliate link) during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale! Can’t wait to wear them. But again you can find these second-hand.

Would it even be a fall post of mine if we didn’t talk about boots??? If I could I would live in boots year round. The trend I am seeing this year is either platform boots/shoes (not a fan) or slouchy boots. I call them my pirate boots haha. I love that these types of boots are back in style. They feel worn in, casual but still really stylish, and easy to wear with multiple types of outfits.

Give me all the preppy collared shirt or sweater vibes. I think this trend is sooo cute! It adds a little something different than just wearing your typical sweater. I have been seeing this trend everywhere from high-end to H&M so you know it’s a big trend this fall season. Are you into it?

This hat is by the Brand Brixton which is affordable but have also seen many on Ebay and Poshmark!

Lastly, don’t forget your accessories! I love all hats and scarves during fall. I think they add the most gorgeous layering element to your look! Hats are especially nice because it adds so much without increasing heat.

Okay sweet friends, there you have it 5 trends to get you in the early fall spirit and how to shop them sustainably. Remember you don’t need any of these clothing pieces to enjoy fall. Fall is about really leaning into the beauty of the season. Enjoying the leaves changing, feeling the crisp air against your face, grabbing a pumpkin or two. Cute clothing can only enhance your experience but is not “needed” as everyone says.

All my love,

M
