Happy Wednesday sweet friends! I wanted to share a new book review with you all! I have been sharing mini ones over on my instagram (@spoonfulsofcozy) but feel the Ex Hex by Erin Sterling deserved a spot on my blog. Let me start off with saying that this book is one of my favorites I’ve read this year and I don’t say that lightly. I have read some unbelievably amazing books this year and this one slotted it’s self right up there into my top favorites.
Here’s the description before I jump in to my review!
“Nine years ago, Vivienne Jones nursed her broken heart like any young witch would: vodka, weepy music, bubble baths…and a curse on the horrible boyfriend. Sure, Vivi knows she shouldn’t use her magic this way, but with only an “orchard hayride” scented candle on hand, she isn’t worried it will cause him anything more than a bad hair day or two. That is until Rhys Penhallow, descendent of the town’s ancestors, breaker of hearts, and annoyingly just as gorgeous as he always was, returns to Graves Glen, Georgia. What should be a quick trip to recharge the town’s ley lines and make an appearance at the annual fall festival turns disastrously wrong. With one calamity after another striking Rhys, Vivi realizes her silly little Ex Hex may not have been so harmless after all. Vivi and Rhys have to ignore their off the charts chemistry to work together to save the town and find a way to break the break-up curse before it’s too late.”
This book had all the components that make up my favorite books, it has a small cozy town, has some light academia thrown in, is set during autumn, has magic, and firey chemistry between the main characters. The Ex Hex had all of that and more! I adored Vivi and Rhys together and loved their banter and can’t keep their hands off each other even though they’re trying to energy. This book will make your heart swoon over Rhys and his gorgeous accent, make you laugh out loud, and make you feel all the autumnal magic. I mentioned on instagram that it was one of those books for me that I didn’t want to finish and prolonged reading because I didn’t want it to end. I might go as far in saying if you want to read only one autumnal book this fall make it this one. It was a 5/5 read for me and I already miss being enveloped in the story. I also, don’t want to give away any of it’s magic so I am keeping out specific details in this review. I normally would share a little but think this one is too special to do so.
If you read it let me know what you think! I so adored it and wish I could read it all over again.
