Happy June! Things I’m Loving

Dress: Breath of Youth Clothing

Happy June sweet friends! I realize I didn’t speak to you all in May and I am sorry for that! May ended up being a challenging and very busy month for me. I became fully vaccinated, turned 26, and had some very big job interviews. I also succumbed to a little reading rut after finishing Covet. I haven’t been in one before but I honestly felt sad that I had finished it and couldn’t just jump into the next book (it comes out in September). That being said I didn’t really get to the other books I shared I wanted to read in my last post. I tried but didn’t enjoy most of them.

Though May was quite challenging at times it also had its “pure joy” moments like being able to hug my grandmother for the first time in over a year, actually spend my birthday with my boyfriend since we couldn’t last year, jumping into new hobbies like tending to plants and veggies in my apartment, and connecting with so many lovely people and bookworms over on my instagram. Since joining the “bookstagram” or cozy community I call it, I have felt like I have friends who get me. When I was in the fashion blogging space I never felt that way. I always felt like I didn’t belong or didn’t want to belong because of the consumerism that was interjected into every aspect.

That brings to today’s post! Since stepping away from that Fashion blogging space, I have mulled over many times what I should really write about on here. Should I just make it about cozy bookstagram/book reviews or continue share all the things that fill my soul? I decided on the latter! I have always just wanted this blog and space to be a cozy and welcoming place where all things can be discussed so why hold myself back from that? That’s silly!

The 1st Thing I have been loving lately is trying out different looks and outfits! As much as I love fashion, I do have my tried and true and gravitate towards those pieces but I am loving mixing it up! From cottagecore, to light academia, to summer time florals, collared sweaters, you name it!

The 2nd Thing I am loving lately is really diving back into sustainability, non toxic , and ethical purchases! I have always been very passionate about making swaps where I can but lately, I have wanted to dive even deeper into it. I have been at the library researching how to knit to learn to make my own sweaters one day, how to grown your own food in a small space to create a seasonal pantry, using less plastic and more recycled materials. I have also increased my passion about using non-toxic ingredients on my body and not just in my space because I think that is so important too! We often don’t think about how many chemicals are in lotion or nail polish and that then go into our bloodstream. So I found this lovely company that makes non toxic gel nailpolish! This might seem small but literally made my day haha. I love gel because of how long it stays on but it is filled with really yucky chemicals. It’s called Manucurist!

Next up is instrumental music! I never used to be an instrumental music person but ever since I developed severe chronic migraine being able to listen to music came to a crashing halt for me. I find it so unbelievably painful to listen to music that has lyrics/ a lot of base etc. I get to sometimes but more often than not music is painful for me. So I have found these Harry Potter Ambient music playlists on youtube that I love! I also listen to the pain instrumental playlists on spotify. You won’t necessarily be jamming out to these playlists but they fill me with so much calm and peace. Even if music isn’t painful for you, I recommend playing these playlists because they are honestly so beautiful.

Last favorite is letting myself be a mood reader! What is that you might ask? Instead of creating a strict TBR or list of books you want to read that month, you pick up whatever book calls to you and you might read 10 books that month or 1 and either is okay. For me, the only thing that got me out of my reading rut was just picking up any book that sounded good to me even if I didn’t finish the others I had started. I usually feel so guilty doing this because I don’t like to leave any book unread but forcing myself to read something I wasn’t really enjoying perpetrated the rut. So I ended up reading Wild Love in 2 days and adored it! I now have re-started A Discovery of Witches which I am also loving. Let me know some of you favorite things at the moment or what you’re reading!

Promise to speak to you sooner than July 😉
